What is a Functional Assessment Exam?

CORE Health Networks performs Functional Assessment Exams to evaluate whether employees are able to perform the essential functions of their job duties. The Functional Assessment Exam primarily consists of a series of tests of gross motor function to identify areas of concern that may limit an employee’s ability to perform the essential functions of their job duties, along with a review of both musculoskeletal and medical histories and current medications.

When is a Functional Assessment Exam performed?

The Functional Assessment Exam is typically implemented during the post-offer, pre-employment phase of employee in-processing, but may also be employed during a Return-to-Work Exam.

Why perform Functional Assessment Exams?

The Functional Assessment Program is designed to ensure compatibility between the employee and the essential functions of their job requirements. Successfully aligning employees with essential job functions has proven to yield fewer employee injuries in the workplace.
